Hi again, My cable is about 2meters long (including the USB cable part)

I'm not sure the original Apples have a 'control reset' function.
Pushing just the reset button when the garbled text is on the screen
results in the machine re-booting.

If the apple II hangs at 801G I can then jump out of the hang state by
pushing reset a bunch of times...if I do the BEFFG then it looks like
it hangs (as you mentioned), but resending the java again does nothing
as the apple II still looks like it has hung.

I never see garbeled text with no comunication errors on the Java. The
garbled text is always acompanied with errors in java. In fact I always
get errors in java regardless of what the apple II is doing at this
point, frozen or with garbled text.

if I get garbled text and try to press return, nothing happens. The
only key that does anything is reset, and that reboots the system.

Occasioanlly I can actually make out some works in the garbled mess.
The reason I believe it's not just a lowercase problem is that the
garbled info is different every time (random).

Every thing seems to function perfectly up until the 801G call, then it
gets screwy.
