Hi, I have a gs which has a smoked ADB port.
It works fine except that I can not attach a keyboard (well I can but it will not work)

What would be a systematical way to figure out if I can repair it ?
Or is any issue with the ADB the kiss of death and I can use him for parts now?

First, verify that the ADB socket and its PC board connections are
sound--sometimes it's just a broken connection from flexing.

If that fails, you will probably need to replace the ADB controller
chip--for which the likely source is another (spare?) IIgs board. ;-(

If I can exclude the connector, is there a way to check if the controller is OK or broken?
I have no schematic of the gs, where is the controller located?

You're going to love this...it's the biggish chip connected
directly to the ADB connector. ;-)

Seriously, you're going to have to remove the main board in any
case to resolder the connector or replace the chip--or replace
the main board, if it comes to that. Might as well follow the
traces to the chip.

BTW, after my first reply I realized that nothing had been said about
the keyboard & cable--do the keyboard and cable work with another ADB
computer, to rule out failures there?
