Thats sorta been done before, but it looks nicer if you can find either an original or aftermarket IIe to GS conversion pan. It's the base pan for a IIe that will accomdate a GS ROM 00/01 motherboard.
The ROM 03 won't work because it doesn't have the internal KB connector, and some 01's have only the solder pads, whereas some do have the connector and are ready to go.
They show up on eBay occasionally. There have been 3 in the last 4 months that I know of.
