Sucks you have to give it back, I have a fast double-sided scanner
setup perfect for turning large books in to pdf's -- OCR as well (using
Acrobat 7 standard)
But it also requires the binding be chopped off the book, which in your
case isn't remotely feasible. :-) I take it that book is completely
out of print? (too bad that technical works share the same duration as
normal works -- technical material goes obsolete and out of print so
much quicker than, say, literature.)
