I think I'm better off with the baby monitor idea than trying to make
the printer louder. Good ideas, though. I know he uses Appleworks, but
I think it's of the 8 bit variety.
That's the best kind. ;-) There are *lots* of add-ons for 8-bit
Appleworks. It had about 100x more users than AppleworksGS.
If the printer is not buffered (either in hardware or software), then
a macro used to print could easily sound the "bell" intermittently
or continuously when the print command completes.
I'll check to see if he or I have
True Type fonts for it. Cleaning the print head sounds almost as bad as
changing it.
It's easy to remove and re-insert a print head. Just remove the ribbon,
flip the "latches", and wiggle it out of its board-edge connector.
I can't resist a "Rube Goldberg" idea for you. ;-) A friend has a cat,
and when she prints, the cat is mesmerized by the printer's activities.
So, here's the idea: get a cat, let it watch the printer, and when it
wants to come upstairs, the print job is finished! ;-)
