It's quite impressive. His hobby is cramming old game consoles into
custom portable cases. You may have seen him on Slashdot. A few months
ago he made himself an Atari 800 XE laptop out of a real Atari. WOW!

He also wrote a book that'll show you how to make your own portables.
It's non-trivial, but since you're considering hacking up an emate for
your //c project this seems to be right up your alley.

P.S. Have you taken a look at Tony Diaz'es IIgs portables/ luggables?
They're not as extensive as Ben Heck's but also very impressive.
