iMac 17 inch with 1.83GHz Intel Dual Core is $1299.  Fits most of that, 
but comes with far more useful software than a PC system normally would.  
And even Intel is basically admitting that the Pentium 4 architecture 
isn't all it's cracked up to be.

iBook 1.42GHz G4, 14 inch, NO integrated video (integrated video sucks 
from personal experience) is $1299.  Probably will be faster Intel by 
this summer.

And best of all with both of those is that you don't have to run 
Windows.  A major plus for a lot of people that I know.
