The Datasette is a physical tape recorder (with additional internal d/a and a/d conversion), so WAV files won't really help me. What I meant with my sugegstion was to play the actual tapes in such a device and use the mtap software to read directly from the tape to a digital, zero-crossing based TAP file without an intermediate WAV file. These beasts should be pretty easy to find if you want to try this; it was just a suggestion though.
