The .FDI output is actually a bit more rigorous than .NIB when it
comes to copy-protected disks. For example, you can tell the difference
between 9-bit and 10-bit self-sync bytes, and it might be possible to
handle track synchronization with the index marker.
Of course, no Apple II emulators support .FDI directly, so it's not
really possible to take advantage of this. The closest format to it
is .APP, which supports variable-length nibblized track data.
