Hi Rob,
I don't know about the original switcher, but mine
is a 24 pin to 28 pin adapter with a switch on the A12
line, which allows you to have instead of one video ROM
on a 2732 eprom, you can have 2 different video roms on
a 2764 eprom and switch between the lower and upper halves
of the eprom. So, you could, on a US IIe, have a US video
rom on one half, and say, German on the second half. Or,
you could have Mousetext on the first half, standard, and
the original video rom for running older software that
doesn't utilize the mousetext characters. I have run some
programs that use characters in the area where mousetext
characters are, and they look kind of strange, so being
able to switch back and forth could be desirable. Also,
you could create your own character set, and put it in the
second half of the dual ROM, and write your own programs
to use them. My adapter was created primarily for a single
user who wanted to use a US IIe motherboard and still have
US and German character sets available. I'm so accomodating
at times. :o) Hope this explains it for you.
