Re: Most technically advanced IIGS games?
Here's another -- Silpheed. Am I wrong, or is this game using a polygon
engine? I can't see how the ships/enemies could be sprites -- there are
just too many viewing angles. What's more amazing is that it's also
running in 640 mode and pulling about 15fps even when the action is hot
and heavy. Amazing soundtrack too. Whoever ported this from the PC was
a maniac and gots the mad skills.
A big "up yours" to all the other Sierra games, though, with their
halved horizontal resolution and the complete absence of 2nd-generation
SCI games on the IIGS. Those games were 320x240@16colors and any
competent programmer surely could have gotten them running on the GS.
Boo!
BTW, my all-time favorite IIGS game is probably Impossible Mission II
by Novotrade. Awesome animation and great, rewarding platforming
gameplay. The palette is a little pastel-ish for my tastes, though.
