I never thought of trying that.  Mind you, I had lots of other games
to play and since then I've gotten a few IIe's that I can always set
up to play Elite on now.

When I played Elite on my IIe, I used to have a real hard time docking
with a station.  I can't imagine what it would be like to try to dock
when things are running 2.5 times faster.  :)

The only thing with the drives you mention is that they all need to
have the operating system modified so that they will be recognized
(with the exception of Terrence's ROM drive as I believe it appears to
ProDOS as a block device).  I'm pretty sure Elite is going to be on a
DOS 3.3 or variant disk so getting one of those devices booting and
being able to then run Elite (which I don't think was ever cracked
down to the file level) would be difficult.

This is just my opinion.  I'm not exactly sure what difficulties you
might run into trying to do this so others might be able to give you
better advice.

Another option like the ones you mentioned already is the Compact
Flash For Apple II (aka CFFA) card.  Information about it can be found
