What difference does this make? How they distribute/promote their site and II products is strictly up to them. Whether one wants to take advantage of this is a personal decision. I find CSA2 quite acceptable, but if I weren't on a fixed income, I would probably register myself.
Yes, the Delphi scene was a good thing in that sense. Too bad things got seriously fragmented again in the Apple II world once Delphidropped telnet support.
Having run several message systems, I recall many users come and go and some come back again. Users can be fickle. Low traffic can be frustrating. Sysops get burned out and tire of running things. Many things beside overhead must be considered for such a service. The real question is always, do I want to pay the fee requested for the product/services rendered.
