A short update:
My problems seem to be DNS-related.

I can access the BBS program on my main machine using 
telnet and the IP number, but fail when using the 
machine name.

What DNS numbers do have to go into the Marinetti panel?

I have two that my ISP provides:
194.25.2.129 and 194.25.2.130

I have the base adress of my DSL router:
192.168.178.1

I have setup an accout with 
https://www.xname.org/index.php?language=en
and used their DNS IP numbers.

None of this works so far.

I'd appreciate your help very much.

BTW do I have to fill in name and password or is this 
just for dialup?
