: You should be able to. There was a problem with GS-ShrinkIt where it
: could only read or write 5.25" disk archives if they were in ProDOS
: format. Non-ProDOS disk archives were fine on 3.5" disks. Apparently it
: was a bug in the OS, but I don't know if it was ever fixed. The
: workaround was to use the 8-bit version of ShrinkIt for non-ProDOS 5.25"
: disk archives.

What Roger is referring to here is, the disk must be formatted in ProDOS
sector orderingIf the disks are formatted in DOS sector ordering, then GSOS
sees them as a DOS disk which cannot be written under GSOS. When you are in
8-bit Shrinkit, then you are no longer in GSOS, or 16-bit mode and you then
should be able to write to any formatted 5.25" disk. Disks must be formatted
in any case no matter what Shrinkit version you use. Non-formatted disks will
not be written to, except in rare cases, such as, Bit-Copy. This will format
each track as it is written.

: This still isn't your problem though since you're dealing with a ProDOS
: disk archive. The first thing I'd try would be to boot from a floppy
: disk. The System 6 'System Disk' has the driver for the 5.25" disk drive
: on it. If that works you know it's software related.

This is a very wise suggestion. The System disk of the GSOS install
package has most everything you need to function as a complete system.
I'd give this a try.

: Do you have the Apple SuperDrive controller card installed? If you're
: running a 1.4MB drive from the built-in disk drive port it can only be
: used as an 800KB drive.

I was under the impression that the AEHD3.5 driver allowed it to work
as a 1.44 MB drive even on the SmartPort. I have one but have yet to try
this theory.
