So do you have one, too? If yes, what are you doing with it?
The C64 part seems to work fine (NTSC) but without disc support you
only can type some small basic lines and some funny peek and pokes...
Btw, you really should buy one, as who knows for how long they will be
available! For the whole project I only hope, that the C64 disc support
will come as fast as possible.

The Amstrad CPC came later (1984) than the C64, was quite faster (2-3
times) and had a much more modern architecture (FDC, Z80 etc...). It
was a brilliant machine (screen resolution of up to 768x270, fastes
floppy for 8bit machines etc) but not popular, because the C64 came
earlier and had better capabilities for many type of games (SID sound
and hardware sprites).
