I did place an order for this with Syndicomm a couple weeks ago, although I
never got a confirmation email. It may just be an email glitch and they're
on their way. If I don't hear anything in the next week or so I'll try to
get ahold of them again. On the other hand I was looking at this more like
the chicken/egg puzzle. It had to get there somehow! *grin*
In any event what I was thinking is almost what dos33dmp did. Transfer
whatever resident portions prodos leaves behind via a serial link. That
should leave me with the MLI, command hooks etc essentially "jumpstarting" a
live prodos. As long as I was in basic at the time, get ADT on the system
via the serial link and build the media from there? I do have several
prodos images but i think they're the 5.25" images. It shouldn't be too
hard to make one though, and I've got several emulators running that could
provide a semi working environment. What I don't know is much about the //c
plus. If I do this from the //e emulators, will this be a problem?
Worse yet, is my understanding of how prodos works so flawed that this will
never work in the first place?
I do have an older mac, but unfortunately my son tried to "help" me one day
and attempted the removal of the scsi drive from the machine using the drive
heads (fragile) ribbon cable as the leverage point. I'm sure you're all
wincing at this. I know I did. I've been watching ebay for one of those
for quite some time as well. As I understand it not just any SCSI drive
will do because there is a special apple format on them.
Yes, not having a 5.25" drive has crippled me in this regard. The //c plus
is a nice machine though. I can see I'm going to have to spend some time on
ebay and bulk up on my hardware pile again.
