By way of experiment I just initialized a spare 20 MB SCSI drive and
partitioned it half ProDOS and half HFS, using Apple HD SC Setup under
System 7.5... for some reason the only option for a ProDOS partition is
10 Megs (?)
Anyway, Apple's Disk First Aid just ignored the ProDOS partition and
worked as usual on the HFS part.
Norton Disk Doctor 3.5.1 saw the ProDOS partition, but wouldn't work on
it, and also worked as usual on the HFS part.

My entirely empirical conclusion is that it shouldn't be a problem to
repair a IIgs HFS partition on a Mac, though a few points should be
considered:

1) ProDOS support is optimal under Macintosh System 7.5.x and I'm
fairly sure you need to have PC Exchange installed. System 6 is
a bit more of a hassle when it comes to ProDOS. I'm not sure
about later OS's since none of my PPC Macs have SCSI (or indeed
any serial port other than USB).
2) I don't have a SCSI card in my IIgs to thoroughly test my
theory. If anyone would like to give me one, in return for the
satisfaction of knowing for sure.... ;-)
