AGATE handles ZMODEM downloads (but not uploads).  It uses DHR to render IBM
graphics, though, so I'm not sure how well it'd work with your
text-to-speech program.  If you want to try it, it's here:

ProTERM handles both uploads and downloads, and is much cheaper than it was
back when I bought it (was $100 13-14 years ago, now $20).  It was worth it
back then, and it's a steal now for what it delivers:
