Serial card of some sort, or possibly networking (lack of a buffer is
confusing)? The Apple mouse card clearly says "mouse card" on it, and has a
9-pin connector. I've got one, but need an enhanced //e to use it in ;)

BBCs use 6522s for interfacing to the outside world via the Analogue ports.
Perhaps it's some sort of interfacing card designed to work with a breakout
cable.
