Re: Unidisk drives with Disk II controller card?

The 5.25" Unidisk drive is electronically compatible with the Disk II controller cards exept for one wire that is the drive select line for daisy chaining. I have heard that you can migrate one wire form the 2nd drive connector to make two of the unidisk drives to work correctly.

The revese is supposed to be true also, you can use a disk II drive with the newer disk controller buy moving the select line for the 2nd drive. If you can find a pin-out, it wold be relatively easy to isolate that signal. In fact, I have one of the newer style to Diks II adapters they used to sell for the IIc.

However, since the 5.25" disk controller cards are so numerous, it may be a lot easier to just ask for someone to send you a spare one to use with your drive(s).

Thanxk,
Ed

(The other resonce here seems to be a confusion of the 3.5" Unidisk drive info and the 5.25" Unidisk info.)

Dear all,

I am terribly sorry for being so curious and inquisitive, but I can't help
it, at least for now.
So, I am thinking of buying an apple Unidisk, but I do not have a
corresponding Unidisk controller card. However, somehow I am hoping that I
can get away with a soldering iron and a crippled 25 DSUB connector.

Am I too optimistic?

best to you all
