Until my drive died, I was running my ROM 01 machine with a high-speed
SCSI card in Slot 1. The one problem I had with that is that the HS-SCSI
card will only delay startup in certain slots, so on a cold boot I usually
had to let the machine crash, then do a 3-finger salute to get it going
because the boot cycle would time out before the drive was ready. I have
another solution for that; the TransWarp IIgs card has a nifty little
startup animation that is *just* long enough to delay startup long enough
to get the drive going. Only trouble is, my TWGS isn't stable enough to
use. 8-)

I gotta put this system back together again. Where did I put that
candidate SCSI drive.........

Got a ROM03 here (I need to find a ROM01, though - not enough compatibility in the 03). Slot 1 in my machine is essentially unusable, as it's blocked by power supply fan. I have yet to see a card that's short enough to fit behind the fan; certainly, the Apple HS SCSI won't. Yeah, I have the TWGS splash screen turned on. Maybe the delay is why I have to power cycle to get my machine to reboot more often than not. "Restarting" causes a freeze at the main "Apple IIgs" blue screen or a crash to the monitor.
