Obviously AppleTalk will require slot 7 to be set, but do I also have to
pull the SSC from slot 1? If I put the hard drive in slot will it
interfere with the modem? If I put the HD in slot 6 will it kill my
[necessary] 5.25" drive off the smart port?
Slot 1: Your Card Super Serial Card (printer)
Slot 2: Modem Port Modem
Slot 3: Built-in Text Display Computer Eyes Video Card
Slot 4: Mouse Port
Slot 5: Smart Port 2 x 3.5" + 1 x 5.25"
Slot 6: Disk Port
Slot 7: Your Card Microdrive IDE (6 x 27 MB partitions)
On a ROM 01 machine, AppleTalk requires that either slot 1 or slot 2 be set
to "Your Card." However, you can still use a card in that slot, since the
AppleTalk firmware is in slot 7.
The trick is where to move the hard drive. You can't put it in slot 2
without losing the modem. If you put it in slot 6, you'd have to switch
off the hard drive to use the 5.25" disk drive. That might be a fair
tradeoff for you, depending on how often you use the 5.25" drive.
In my case, I would probably move the SSC to slot 6, since odds are I'm
either online or using a 5.25" disk, but not both at once, then put the
hard drive in slot 2.
