Re: Apple IIe TCP-IP w/ LANceGS Card
I have not clocked the LANceGS. I am not sure what sort of through-put you
can expect, but, doing a download on FTP I can state that the speed "seemd a
bit faster" then dial up but not anywhere as fast as any Mac or PC I have
on the Network from Heck doing the same process. What I can state though is
that the LANceGS is a wonderfull adition ot my main GS. Using Spectrum or
Kim Howe's TelnetNDA as a portal to Syndicomm for online chat I am on my GS
almost daily.
When I 1st got my Lance (and I was on one of the early US group-buys) I 1st
tried it in a Platinum IIe and ran Mr. Lange's utilites. Mainly I was
setting up a fixed IP on the card on my internal net and seeing what all the
gadget was capable of. Soon after that I got my GS and put the Lance in its
current home (and its home for the last 2 years or so).
Here are the specs on my GS:
ROM 3 with a TWGS at 6mhz.
Slot 1 Appletalk (on a 422 cable to a LC which is LT Bridged to the rest of
the net, mainly for file trasnfers),
Slot 2 a Vulcan card (on a 150mb Gold Vulcan hard drive-power supply),
Slot 3 TWGS,
Slot 4 Apple Slinky 1mb memory card used as a Ramdrive,
Slot 5 on 3.5 (800) floppys,
Slot 6 a Apple Superdrive card on 1 a reworked superdrive in a 800k drive
case and a AE 1600 type drive, no 5.25 drives attached
Slot 7 LANceGS.
Memory is a 4mb AE memory card for a total of 5 mb
The Lance is on a standard 10bT hub along with the LC and a couple of older
Macs, PCs, Etherprint adapters, a Laserwriter IIg (sort of) printer and
hooked to my DSL router upstairs via a VERY long CAT5.
This pic is not current, but it will give an idea of my configuration

Joachim Lange has done a wonderful thing bringing the third Apple II
ethernet card that came to competion to the market. Me hat is off to him
