You need to be sure both the 2c and the PC are set for 300 baud so
Applesoft doesn't choke on the incoming data.

The 2c generally doesn't work well above 9600 baud. Later models may
be able to support 19200 but early models have tendency to stumble
past this point.

Another possible problem, the 2c ports default to predefined settings
when powered on. IIRC, the modem port (slot 2) defaults to 9600. To be
more accurate, I'll have to dig out my 2c tech reference. Needless to
say that this default speed setting will make it difficult to transfer
the Applesoft portion of ADT.

If you have the 2c utility disk, you can change the slot settings to
the 300 baud required to transfer the Applesoft portion of ADT. Make
sure the PC matches the 2c's port settings. The 2c should retain these
settings between hardware reboots or until the power is disconnected.
This may not be true when setting the 2c ports via terminal software
as the 2c has an auxiliary settings which the computer uses when warm
booting to reset the slots. It is possible to set the 2c port values
without using Apple's utility disk but I've forgotten how.

FWIW, this is what worked for me but that was years back and I'm
trying to write this from memory.
