I use what I have, which is some moly grease for auto wheel bearings.  I use
a toothpick to apply it to the worm gear. For the other latching and sliding
parts, I use a tiny bit of lube for my bike chain, which has teflon in it.
I apply that with a toothpick too.

These external drives don't get very dirty, since they don't have a cooling
fan sucking air thru them like internal drives, so you don't have to worry
much about dust.

The main problem I've seen is the old grease hardening to a sort of glue.  I
don't think wheel bearing grease is going to do that.
