I had the same kind of issue before. I ended up cobbling a connection
together and basically hand typing some of the ADT code on the Apple and
copy/pasting the hex code into hyperterminal which then sent those
characters to the Apple. It was a hacked up mess but it worked in the end.
This time, I decided to ignore the way that ADT reccommended the connection
be setup and I did it my own way, and it worked perfectly -and at the 19200
baud rate rather than the 300 that I had to use before.

Try setting it up the way that I suggested above, and see if it works for
you.
