One nice source of info about Apple 2 history is www.apple2history.org.
Apple supplied an LCD screen as an aftertought but we are still missing a
12V battery to power the whole thing and make it a laptop.  The 2c was
conceived in a time where Jobs was imagining a computer as an appliance: a
closed box you plug in and start using immediately.  The 2c project was also
an engineering challenge to cram every bits of Apple 2 hardware in a nice
small package and voila: a low-cost Apple 2.  There are no surprise that the
first Mac was introduced about at the same time.

Anyway, the 2c case is cool and I look forward to add one to my collection.
