If it is truly an original Apple II, it will not have the power-on
reset circuit nor the Autostart monitor.  You must RESET the computer.
You will then either drop into the monitor (* prompt) or Integer BASIC 
(> prompt), I don't know which.

Otherwise, pop the lid and reseat all the chips.
