Mac System 6.0.8 and Mac OS X is relatively easy to fix -- change the
AppleShare INIT for the AppleShare extension from System 7.0. However
file sizes and access permissions may not be reported accurately in the
Finder or MultiFinder.
I spent a couple of hours on Sunday playing with my IIgs (which uses
Marsha's hacked version of the CDEV) and various AppleShare servers.
I'm using OS X 10.1.3 and the IIgs can authenticate properly (password
is sent as ClearText). I can copy non-forked files (.gif, .jpeg, .txt,
.shk) from the server volume to a ProDOS or HFS disk, and vice versa. I
*can't* copy a forked file however; the error code is $0053 (invalid
parameter?) and a zero length file is created on the server volume.
Using Marsha's CDEV with Services for Macintosh running on NT4 and
Windows 2000, I had no problem authenticating (password is sent as
ClearText). There were no problems reading or writing any kinds of
files to/from the server volume.
Note: Windows NT4/2000 Services for Mac servers are only visible to the
IIgs if there is a seed router for AppleTalk zones on the network; if
your network has just one zone (called *) then you do not have a seed
router. You can seed AppleTalk zones using your Windows server or using
a hardware router (Fastpath or Gatorbox).
I haven't had a chance to test the Apple IIe Workstation card software
with OS X.
