Not exactly. On a ROM 1, you must set slot 7 to "AppleTalk". Slot 1 or
2 must be set to "Your Card". The port corresponding to the slot set to
"Your Card" is the one in which the network must be connected.

(a) If you have slot 7 = AppleTalk and slot 1 = Your Card, you plug the
AppleTalk network into the printer port.

(b) If you have slot 7 = AppleTalk and slot 2 = Your Card, you plug the
AppleTalk network into the modem port.

(c) If you have slot 7 = AppleTlak and both slots 1 and 2 = Your Card,
then slot 1 takes precedence, and you plug the AppleTalk network into
the printer port.

In any of the three cases, you can install your own card (e.g. a SCSI
card) into whichever of slots 1 and/or 2 is set to "Your Card". You
can't install your own card into slot 7, unless it is a type of card
which does not require access to the firmware and I/O (e.g. some types
of sound card).

In Matthew's case, I'd suggest connecting the ImageWriter to the printer
port, AppleTalk to the modem port, setting slot 2 to "Your Card" and
slot 7 to "AppleTalk" and installing the SCSI card in slot 2.

If you want to boot from the SCSI card, you can set the startup slot to
2. Another option is to leave it set to "Scan", in which case the
computer will try to boot from the 5.25" drive, then the 3.5" drive,
then the SCSI card.

It would be possible to reverse the settings - use the printer port
(slot 1) for AppleTalk, and the modem port (slot 2) for the ImageWriter,
but this requires adjusting more Control Panel settings, and doesn't
have any obvious benefits in this case.
