I had that happen with a bad memory card.  Do you have
any extra RAM installed.  GS/OS needs at least 1.25 meg
of RAM to run on a ROM 1 machine which means you need
at least the Apple 1 meg RAM expansion card.  It won't
run on just 256K stock memory.  If you need one, I have
one that I could sell you.
