I read (hear) you Mark. I use both a Rom01 and Rom03 daily. For my uses,
I can find no preference for one over the other. But I'm not into playing
games or music on my IIGS either. This picket fence 'sits' very well
IMHO. ;-)

Now to the gripe session - off topic. I just stated I used a Rom03
everyday. Sadly, this is about the last day for that statement.
Microsoft 'microintelligence' mentality has invaded the Univ. of Iowa.
I used Proterm 3.1 to access the Usenet apple2 newsgroups using a dial-up
modem from my IIGS Rom3 at home. As of July 1, 2001 The Univ. of Iowa is
discontinuing its dialup modem pool and dial-in access will no longer be
possible, except for non-existent local 3rd party ISP's. I will have
to use ProtermMac with ethernet connection to a cable modem. (My son
already has the cable modem for his Win98 box.) So the Rom3 will be
retired to offline useage. :-(

Furthermore, as of the Jul 1 2001, the Univ. of Iowa will no longer run a
news server for Usenet newsgroups. Luckily I have access to another news
server so I will continue reading csa2*. Most Univ. of Iowa
students/staff/faculty will not be so lucky unless they sign up with
another ISP.

This is all because of an effort to 'save' money by not supporting older
technology and basing everything on web technology for communication. How
much money will users 'save' by having to buy new computers? Apple II's
may be good VT100 terminals, but are useless for running Internet Explorer
or Netscape. After being online for 20 years with my Apple II's at the
Univ. of Iowa, my modems are going silent.

Don't celebrate though. I'll still be here reading csa2 and maintaining
the ground archives - but with Ethernet and a Mac and HP-Unix box rather
than dial-up to ground. "Progress: the inability to manage apple2
software with an appleII computer!" ;-)
