Re: image to disk ?-- ways to transfer

For the the jokers pondering timing issues:
Hey since you want to optimize your text transfers, just send the ASCII
file to a RAM disk using hi-speed modems with compression, then EXEC the
thing into memory. Much faster and more reliable to send via a file
transfer protocol that makes sure the bits don't get twiddled in
transit.

For those who aren't quite following:
There are two ways to get a program into a computer's memory; load from
storage or enter it in manually from the keyboard. Many newbys do not
have a disk to load the initial software from, so they are stuck typing
something in. The problem is that they probably still can't store that
data back to the disk without DOS which is on the startup disk. Granted
you could type in about anything, including DOS, but accuracy would
probably not be nearly good enough. (Especailly the way alot of us
type.)

All newby needs to understand is that in the method outlined in the
Apple Disk Transfer (ADT) documentation is to have the other PC will
type in the ADT program on their Apple II. First have DOS typed in if
you do not have a startup disk. Then have ADT typed in to allow one to
transfer disk images to real disks. ADT is a comm program that copies
disk images from the other computer to your Apple II's disk drive. For
the newby, ADT and 300baud is the least amount of effort from a windows
type PC. (My opinion.)

My 2 cents.
