OK, I guess I'll have to explain the scenario..
I have roughly 400 megs of Apple programs compressed into a single
self-extracting zip file. This file is comprised of around 4,000 individual
programs that I found lying around the 'net. As a result, they are stuck on
my PC.
The reason I need a comm program that will work with HFS is obviously
because of the file size. No other file system will do. I do not have a Mac
lying around so there's no help there. It's going to have to go over a null
modem cable from the PC ---> Apple
The amount of time it will take is not really relevant. I have time and can
set it up and let it go. So, I have two SCSI drives. Both are identical 2
gig units. The one drive is almost strictly tiny 32 meg partitions and will
be the working drive. The other drive is a single two gig HFS partition. The
idea is to stick all the programs onto the HFS drive, decompress them using
the self-extracting file and than wipe out that file. This means around 500
megs of stuff on that drive that can than be moved to wherever. At least the
programs are than accessible for use.
So the problem comes back to what is the best application to use for
communicating over a null modem cable that can address the HFS file system.
The only other option I have seems to be picking up a CD player and burning
the data on it and than using that with the IIgs. Certainly it would be
faster and would result in a stable archive on a single disk.
What do you guys think?
Best;
