I've been there much more than a few times in the little more than a year
that I've been registered there. And I've been to the chat rooms. There
isn't a tight clique. But there are a number of people who have known each
other for a long time. Every time I've entered I've been greeted by
everyone who wasn't away from the keyboard. I was there once when you
entered the chat room Bob. And you were greeted in exactly the same manner.
Rude comments? I was there when there were some short comments. They could
have been taken as rude, but having gotten used to the personalities there,
I know that there wasn't a deliberate attempt to be rude, just an acting
out of that personality.

But they have helped me. And they have helped others. Of course, what they
won't do is help you to download and install software that is copyrighted.
And that was part of the problem that one evening that we both were there.
I remember thinking that there might be a communication problem, which this
media has far too much of, but it did seem that you were asking help in
downloading and installing software that wasn't yet classified as freeware,
and Delphi is the wrong place to ask for help in doing that.

If QC is there, he hasn't announced who he is. I've never seen jokes about
homosexuals while I've been in the chat rooms, and I'm there several times
each week. There are, very rarely, comments about Mr. Turley, but his name
very rarely comes up. (Hope that doesn't disappoint you too much Tom)

It is unfriendly to pirates, Bob, no doubt about that. But if you bought a
program used somewhere, and needed help with it, you will get it. If you
need help downloading a freeware program and getting it setup, you will get
it. If you want to download a program that is still legally a commercial
product, or setting up some program that legally is still a commercial
program, you will get the cold shoulder, and that's for sure.

Joe doesn't like to be called Mr. Kohn. You know what? I called him Mr.
Kohn the night SAM was announced, and he was quick to come back with "my
name is Joe" I saw what happened to you, and it was the same thing that
happened to me. Don't forget the limits of this media. You can't see his
face, or hear his voice. I was taken aback, but said, "Sorry Joe" and asked
my question again, and he acted like nothing had happened and was very nice
thereafter. Charles "T" Turley doesn't like to be called "Chuck" did you
see his response to me calling him that? He made Joe's comments seem mild
in comparison.

I am real. And I've never seen any fights there. Doesn't mean there haven't
been any, I've just never seen any, and I've been there a lot more than you
have.

It is true that there aren't a lot of posts in the programmer newsgroup.
But it is also true that there are posted times that certain programmers
will be online to answer questions, and they are very friendly and helpful
if you are there during those times. Otherwise you are alone there.

I have no idea what you mean by that.

Perhaps its called experience Bob. People like to talk and dream. But it
takes big money to do some of the things suggested, and/or lot's of
volunteer engineers, and those things have been talked about before, and
haven't happened, time and again. After awhile, you conclude, "Yeah, right,
it'll never happen." People have talked about an ethernet card for years.
Apple evidently designed two, and never released them. Still no ethernet
card, and I know one guy who's been working on and off for over a year on
one. It's no fun getting cold water dumped on your enthusiasm. I don't like
it either. I'd love to see the cynics wrong. But to do that someone has to
do more than just talk. They have to work at it, knowing that they will
never get minimum wage return (if that) for their time and skill.

Ah, but they would be deleted there Bob. They would be deleted. And I have
seen once an obnoxious person ejected from the chat room. Did you know
that?
