You're using it on a IIgs with GS/OS running, right?  And you've got
these drives daisychained with your 3.5" drive(s), right?  GS/OS polls
the 3.5" drives to see if a disk has been inserted, and this polling
action gives your 5.25" drives a miniature thrill every .5 seconds or
so.
