Hi,

The GeoPod only works with Macs built after (and including) the 
Centris/Quadra AV series. The GeoPod is drawing power from the serial
port, that's what the 9th pin is for. Besides that extra power supply
(and support for higher baud rates), a GeoPort-enabled serial
connector is fully compatible with other RS-422/232 devices.

Macs only have one GeoPort, the modem port. The printer port is a
regular serial port without GeoPort capabilities if I remember
correctly.

The Mac classic definitely does not handle GeoPods. The GeoPort
requires a dedicated on-board DSP (such as in the Quadra/Centris AV
systems) or a fast CPU (PowerPC). The early PowerPCs could barely
handle the processor load, and they eat a Mac Classic for lunch.

Although a GeoPod is rather obsolete these days, it was a very fine
technology. It just lacked any attention from Apple after the initial
release.
