Re: Printers & The IIGS (Was: Question For Scott G)

Thank you to all those who e-mailed me with information about printers
and the IIGS. I haven't gotten enough answers yet to make any claims one
way or another about what does or doesn't work on the IIGS, so here's a
very preliminary report...

(Preliminary, in this case means...don't go out and buy a printer based
on the comments below!!)

Two people wrote in to say that they have had success using several
different models of the Canon Bubble Jet. From what I have been able to
determine, some models of Bubble Jet will automatically detect whether
data is being sent to the printer using an Epson LQ driver, and other
models have a dip switch that let's you switch to Epson LQ emulation.
Also, it sounds like Bubble Jets have built-in fonts, so they can be used
by AppleWorks Classic and other ProDOS-8 programs.

Two (or was it three?) reports also came in regarding the Epson Stylus II,
but unfortunately, the reports contradicted each other. At least one of
the reports said that the printer worked just fine on the IIGS. The other
report stated that it didn't work at all.

So, obviously, more data, feedback and reports are still needed.

So, please, keep those cards and letters coming...
