The simple answer is simply -- because something is going wrong! Please tell us how 
you are saving your AWP files.  If you are using the Open Apple-S command and not 
saving as a TEXT file then the only thing I can think of is that your copy of 
ApleWorks has gotten a glitch in it.  The cure for that is to re-install it from 
your originals or make another copy of your originals and use them.
