16MB on GS w/AE RamKeeper

Question:

In the 1989 Applied Engineering catalog, there's a product called
the RamKeeper. It is a full sized card that plugs into the memory
expansion slot of the GS and provides two memory card sockets of
its own. There's a gel-cell battery that sits outside the computer
and a charger unit to keep it powered.

AE claimed that this device can accept up to 16MB of memory, 8MB in
each of the memory sockets (which take standard GS memory cards). It
states that the user decides "how much memory to allocate to RAM and
how much to the ROM disk" with the ROM disk being storage backed up
by the battery and charger. Based on the fact that the GS can only
access 8MB of RAM, it looks like in the maximum 16MB configuration,
8MB goes to RAM and the other 8MB becomes a ROM disk.

Looking at the GS "slots" control panel, the "startup" option does
indeed allow booting from a "ROM disk".

Has anyone tried to install 16MB on a RamKeeper? How well does it
work?
