IIe SCSI Card Question

I may buy a SCSI card for my IIe if I find one cheap before I get a Mac.  
Can anyone please tell me what markings are on both versions so I will 
recognize it if I see it?

Also, is any external software required?  If it comes with a disk, there 
is a 0% chance the disk will still be there.  Can it be downloaded from 
the web?  I mainly want to get a small HD and use it to store files that 
I download which are overflowing my floppys.  I would save everything to 
two HD's as backup.

Can Appleworks 2.0 read/write to a HD?  Can Zlink?  Is there a FAQ on the 
web that tells me all I need to know?
