Why an Apple II?

HI!
Late last night, a idea popped into my head for a post on the II
Newsgroups. I have 2 questions: Why did you get an Apple II computer in
the first place, and the second one is: Why are you continuing to use an
Apple II, despite the emergence of new computers, etc......? The
questions are will sound a bit narrow for those who have used more than 1
Apple II, so if you have for instance, bought a II+, went to IIe, then to
a IIGS, please tell us why.

Since I brought this up, I'll begin with me. I didn't have much
of choice when it came to computers. I'm 21, and my IIe has been with me
for nearly 12 years (in November.) My dad bought our IIe way back in
1983 at of all places Macy's. I'm not absolutely sure why he bought it,
but I do remember that our orginal system consisted of 64k, one disk
drive, and a monitor. He later got a second disk drive, and the extended
80 column card. Our system then could've been called the power II system
of the time. My dad later added a CP/M card, and had Dbase II and
Multiplan and assorted CP/M programs. I think my dad bought to use a the
restaurant he was working at, so the early years the IIe was not at
home. Later, when the restaurant switched to an IBM PC, the IIe was
brought to where it belonged: home!

After the IIe was brought home, my dad ceased to use it. I took
up the reins, and have used it ever since. Why have I used it, despite
new computers, etc? Well, it has served my needs and I don't really
need anything else. My need right now are not power needs. I run along
happily with 128K, Appleworks 2.0, and other assorted programs. Since I
got online a few months ago, it has been fun, but I could only do it at
school. But lately my IIe had been revitalized due to the fact I finally
got a modem, etc.. and my II is alive again, after spending a lot of time
unused, because I didn't need to use it for Appleworks, or other things.
My biggest smile comes when I do something with the IIe, like make a
poster from Print Magic, and show it to non computer users, who are
impressed. They don't know anything about computers, so anything will
impress them, and I don't need the latest or newest equipment to do it.

My IIe will be around for many years to come, the modem will keep
my II useful for a long time. Though my parents have decided the time
has come for a new computer, the II will not be forgotten, and will be
used side to side with my new computer. Long live the Apple II!
