: The Apple IIgs was the first Apple II produced with a platinum
: (or grey as some see it) case design. In fact, it was the very _first_
: computer made by Apple that used the platinum color scheme. This was in
: September 1986, a few months after the Macintosh Plus was introduced,
: which at that time Macs were still beige colored.

: Moving ahead a year later, in 1987, Apple introduced the platinum
: Apple IIe (aside from case color, mostly minor changes: new keyboard, metal
: ID plates replaced with printed font, reduction of some ICs on motherboard,
: shift-key mod and 128k standard, etc). Sometime in between the IIgs and
: platinum IIe, the Apple //c's color scheme had also changed to platinum
: from a previous snow-white color. I believe a memory expansion socket was
: added around this time as well (IIc ROM revision 3).

The memory expandable //c came out with the IIgs. It was still white but had
grey keys. Then the grey //c plus came out in Sept. '88 at Applefest and I even
got to see John Sculley waving one around with a big grin on his face.
