I don't exactly understand your explanation above; it's actually really
simple. If you only display 16 pixels horizontally of an image, you can
use the 3200 technique to display any of 4096 colors with those 16 pixels.
Therefore, you could actually view something in 12 bit color (although
most things will, of course, be 8 bit color). "Wide" mode just displays
strips alternately, so the flickering you're seeing is an artifact of the
slow draw/erase cycle....
