re: Why does nobody want Pegasus P?
Ken, this is a reply to your lament.
I've never used Pascal. I've always avoided it as assembly and "C"
are "closer" to the actual machine. i.e. assembly is at machine level
and "C" , which I'm just starting to learn, is next "closest." I've
always thought that Pascal was used to teach intro programming to
college students; at U. of Maine where I taught Mathematics, the
sequence went: Basic, Pascal, machine.... We switched that to: Basic,
PL-1, machine.... We still had a Pascal course as well as COBOL
(Cobol - for those who new no better.)
There is also a momentum problem. People have chossen their
favorite language. "Why try something else???" is the question
each person will need to ask themselves. We will be having the
same type of problem when we release _PageWriter_. Everyone is
already familiar with whatever they are presently using. Only those
liking Apple Writer, or needing a very powerful word prosessor
will want it and will probably not try it because of the momentum
problem I've tried to outline.
More to your point, ORCA is a language system. i.e. you can use
Asembly, "C," Pascal, Modula 2 (?), Integer... as you may choose
for each segment of your program. Can you integrate you program
with any other language?
How much is the program? What can it do? How long is the code
generated by your program compared to a "C" or assembly generation?
I'm in no trying to denigrate your work in any way!! I'm just trying
to answer your lament. Larry
