The obvious solution is to use System 6's Finder to copy the file to
another disk, and rename it to a valid filename in the process.  Any
program that complains about the filename must pre-date GS/OS.

Filetypes are a little trickier - see if you can get hold of the File
Manager NDA (shareware), or if you have any shell (GNO, ORCA, Merlin),
there should be a command to change filetypes.  Again, you'd have to
take a copy of the file first.
