This is what I've been doing, but is an unacceptable long-term solution.
Especially when I have a 600MB CD, and only 1.5 MB free left on my HD.

It's not that GIF complains, it just won't list any file in it's dialog
box, unless it ends in .GIF  specifically.  ISO 9660 files end in .GIF;1

A CD is write-protected, so this won't do anything.
