What I am confused about is this: Will the female D25 function as a standard female D25. And if it does, is this in normal mode or terminal mode?
Think of it this way:Regardless of the equipment, in order to communicate, one must hook Transmit on one to recieve on the other along with the reverse. Transmit to transmit and receive to receive gets you nowhere fast.
The wiring of any given 25 pin serial connector is either DTE or DCE, reagrdless of gender. Communications is defined as is strait through DTE to DCE, pin 1 to pin 1, 2 to 2, etc.
The main difference between DCE and DTE is that the communication signals are reversed so that you get the transmit to recieve and hand shaking signals goig to their counterpart on the other.
A null modem cable is basically not strait through, it reverses the transmit and receive signals in the cable and shorts out and or crosses the handshaking signals to allow a DTE to DTE or a DCE to DCE communication.
There is a boatload of information about the RS232 standards regarding voltage and handshakig and wiring available on the internet. Jsu tknow that you can't blow up a RS232 by hooking it up incorrectly to another RS232 port, the specifactions allow for that.
Just use the settings in the A2 FAQs for what you need. In particular, stuff by DELFS works well and as advertised. :)
