Re: Apple IIgs Gaming Questions

>>The IIgs looks exactly like a IIe to all games prior to 86. The
exception is obviously the floppy drive controller. If you are running
form a floppy drive controller in slot 6 and it still doesn't run, then
there is some protection that is doing a rom check or a slot scan for a
cracking card or some other such 'feature' that inhibits it from
starting up. Have you considered making copies of the software and
disabling these features? (Deprotecting)

I could believe that for the original disks I'm trying to run, but not
for the bootleg ones. Could these cracked disks be using some sort of
copy protection bypass that isn't compatible with the IIgs? Even if
that were true, why wouldn't a simple thing like a mneu show up? I'm
starting to wonder if it isn't something else thats hooked up to the
IIgs thats causeing the problem. Here's what I have:

IIgs ROM 3
8 MB RAM (I think) via a special card in the auxiliary slot
High Speed SCSI card (rev. B I think) - Slot 7
Unidisk Controller Card - Slot 6
Hard Drive - System 6.01 installed
2 x Unidisk Drives (hooked up to the controller card in slot 6)
2 x IIgs 3.5 Drives (hooked to the smart port)

As you can see, I don't have a lot of special cards or anything so I
can't believe it's something in my computer that's the problem.
However I'm not going to rule anything out at this point.
